LOTF Chapter 11

Well, I can't say I'm TOO surprised. (or saddened, for that matter) I've always had a strong loathing for Piggy, hes the type of guy I absolutely despise-Whiny, loud, annoying, nosey, and just a downright brat. It was indeed a very exciting chapter, what with their stupid shell finally being shattered (how an ordinary shell survived this long, I'll never know)

In any case, I was interested by the part where Jack and Ralph tussled, because even though they were both armed with lethal weapons, neither of them dared to inflict grave wounds upon one another. There was the symbolism of the shell breaking, symbolizing Ralph's role as chief has ended. There is also Piggy's death, which does not simply mean the death of an annoying character, so much as a death of logic and reason on such a savage island. Ralph is on the run, and the optimist may hope that he makes it to a ship just in the nick of time, but the realist (me), is sure that this will not end well, that even if Ralph escapes the island, he will still be haunted by memories of smoke, writhing orange flames, and a tribal dance which he left part of himself behind in.
